You'll Never Walk Alone is this year's most popular funeral song
You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers has taken the top spot on the list of most popular funeral songs this year.
The song has knocked Frank Sinatra’s My Way from the number one position, while Eric Idle’s Always Look on the Bright Side of Life was third, research from Co-op Funeralcare found.
The anthem, which has long been associated with Liverpool Football Club, spent a month at the top of the charts in 1963 and was covered by Sir Captain Tom Moore, Michael Ball and the NHS Voices of Care Choir in April 2020.
Elsewhere on the top ten charts was Dame Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again, which also topped the charts during the pandemic after being re-released as a duet between Katherine Jenkins and Dame Vera.

This is the second time that traditional hymns do not feature in the top 10 with The Lord’s My Shepherd, All Things Bright and Beautiful and Abide With Me usually proving popular.
The 2016 featured the hymns Abide With Me, The Lord is My Shepherd and All Things Bright and Beautiful, while in 2019 none topped the list.
Sam Tyrer, managing director of Co-op Funeralcare, added: ‘Music plays such a big part in all of our lives, it’s no surprise that our favourite songs play a role in the way we say goodbye too.
‘The songs we choose for a funeral all hold unique and personal meaning for ourselves and loved ones but naturally some songs remain more popular than others and we’re delighted to unveil this year’s music chart.’
