Spooky Season at Walt Disney World (Part 2)
Last week, we spent a little time examining some of the souvenir snack items available throughout Walt Disney World this holiday season. This week we’ll take a tasty tour of the tasty treats available at the parks this Halloween season. There was one particular souvenir item that we didn’t mention last week, and it might be the grandest of them all: the Madame Leota sipper.
I adore Madame Leota. Her fortune telling head inside the crystal ball is one of the highlights of the Haunted Mansion. Her tombstone outside the mansion is another favorite. If you’ve never stopped to watch, occasionally the face on the tomb opens its eyes and looks about. She’s become something of a cult figure among Disney fans (or is that occult?). So, it’s no surprise that there would be a major piece of Madame Leota merchandise available for halloween.
The cup resembles a crystal ball with Leota’s head inside. It can be filled with a fountain beverage, and is available for purchase at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments on Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom. A word of warning, the sipper has drawn legions of fans so be prepared to wait a bit to get yours.
While you’re waiting for the line to go down, here are a few of the special treats that’ll keep your tummy happy this haunting season:
Mickey Cinnamon Roll – Available at the Main Street Bakery, this cinnamon roll shaped Mickey Mouse’s head is adorned with orange and white frosting and is sure to be finger licking, sticky delight.
Hades Nachos – If you’re looking for something more savory than sweet, you can haunt the Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe for an order of Hades Nachos. Like Hades himself, these are a spicy little number. They’re made of black bean chips with spicy buffalo chicken, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, salsa and jalapeno.
Constance’s For Better or Worse Wedding Cake – This is the item my wife most wants to try. In that it was inspired by a woman who regularly decapitates her spouses, I’m not sure how to feel about that, but it does look delicious. The cake is a citrus cake with raspberry Bavarian cream. The flowers adorning each tier are made of whipped cream and a little chocolate axe sits on top. The macabre desert is available at the Liberty Square Market.
Pumpkin Spice Soft Serve Sundae – Pumpkin spice is a mandatory part of any modern Halloween season. This sundae features pumpkin spice soft serve, topped with caramel, sprinkles, and whipped cream. It’s available at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies in Tomorrowland.
Mickey Monster Mash Burger – It’s hard to know where to begin with this burger. Do you start by mentioning the potato barrels on it? The bacon? The sriracha aioli? Or do you mention the muenster cheese (like monster, get it?). Wherever you decide to start, be sure to bring your appetite if you’re going to get this burger. It’s available at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe.
Not So Poison Apple Cupcake – This cupcake is so aesthetically pleasing, it’s like it was designed for Instagram. Available at Pinocchio Village House in Fantasyland, the cupcake consists of a spiced apple cupcake and pecan crunch buttercream.
Poisoned Candy Apple – Drifting over to Hollywood Studios, you can purchase this apple and caramel mouse with a red glaze and candy base at the Trolley Car Cafe.
Pumpkin Cheesecake Cannoli – At PizzeRizzo, you can get this bit of creamy goodness, which consists of pumpkin cheesecake with a hazelnut praline crunch.
Box of Bones Chocolate Eclair – I know it’s supposed to be scary, but this little treat is too adorable to be horrifying. It’s a chocolate eclair with a dark chocolate mousse. White chocolate bones protrude out from the sides. You can purchase one at Backlot Express.
Frozen Apple Cider – Available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, this refreshing beverage comes with a poisoned apple glow cube and can be bought at Rosie’s All-American Cafe, PizzeRizzo, and Backlot Express.
Nemo and Squirt’s Noggin Concoction – This goody can only be purchased on Halloween Day at Coral Reef Restaurant in Epcot. It’s a chocolate brownie, loaded up with a chocolate chip cookie, topped with white chocolate covered pretzels and a Mickey pumpkin garnish.
Liquid Nitro Cake Pop – One of the, ahem, cooler snacks this year is also only available on Halloween Day. To purchase this liquid nitro cake pop, you’ll need to stop by Desserts & Champagne Market Place in Epcot’s World Showcase.
Scar Cupcake – While at Animal Kingdom, you can have a dessert inspired by the aspiring King of Beasts: Scar from Disney’s Lion King. The Scar cupcake is red velvet with a toasted marshmallow filling, chocolate marshmallow frosting, white chocolate flames, and an image of Scar made of edible icing. It can be found at Flame Tree Barbeque, Creature Comforts, and Restaurantosaurus.
Spooky Apple Punch – Another drink which can be purchased in either alcoholic or non-alcoholic forms is the Spooky Apple Punch. This mixed beverage contains Sprite, an apple syrup, a rocky candy straw, a gummy worm, and a poison apple glow cube. It’s available at Flame Tree Barbeque and Isle of Java, though the alcoholic version is only at Flame Tree.
We all know that this is a different sort of year and a different sort of Halloween Season. Fortunately, there’s more than enough Disney magic to make it just as haunting and delicious as always.
