Chris Pratt is ballooning up to 300 lbs for a role: would you still hit it?
Above is the most recent photo we have of Chris Pratt, 33, out with his wife, Anna Faris, and their month-old baby, Jack, on September 28. I know Chris from the occasional episode of Parks & Recreation (I don’t watch it regularly) where he’s impressed me with how funny and normal he seems. (I didn’t see Moneyball yet, yes I know I should!) He’s like the nice guy you want to sleep with. I get that same impression from this interview, and from another recent interview I found while trying to read up on him. Below is Chris on June 18, around the time he was buffing up for a role in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, about the capture of Bin Laden by Navy Seals. He looks totally different just a few months ago, right?
Well that film has wrapped and now he’s going in the absolutely opposite direction for a supporting role in a Vince Vaughn comedy called Starbuck. Chris claims in all seriousness that he wants to get up to 300 pounds by November and has 25 more to go. The thing is, I get the impression that he doesn’t even need to put on that much weight and that he’s just doing it to prove his commitment to the role. Maybe he’s just joking around though and is rolling with it. Here’s what he said:
The Parks and Recreation actor, 33, has already gained 40 pounds since June in preparation for his role as a lawyer in the upcoming comedy Starbuck. The film centers around Vince Vaughn, 42, whose character learns he’s fathered 533 children through sperm donations.
“This is what 275 looks like,” Pratt tells Vulture while rubbing his belly. “All man right here.”
Pratt says he hopes to weigh 300 pounds by November. To do so, he’s been drinking “super gross but pretty tasty” weight gain shakes, in addition to eating at fast food restaurants. “I will hit a couple of burgers like it’s laced with crack cocaine,” he jokes. “Oooh, I love it.”
One unfortunate side effect, Pratt admits, is that his energy is lower than ever. “If I just keep eating I can maintain a buzz, like a sugar food buzz. But if I’m in the background of a scene, I’m definitely sitting.”
Pratt is no stranger to modifying his body for a role: He toned up to play a baseball player in 2011’s Moneyball. “I just like to gain weight and lose weight,” he tells Vulture. “It’s a roller coaster. I just want to do this. I want to touch God.”
This reminds me of how Ryan Gosling gained a bunch of weight for Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, but didn’t tell Jackson ahead of time that he was going to do it. He ended up getting replaced by Mark Wahlberg. So it sounds like Chris is just gaining weight because he thinks that his character should be a chub, not because he was necessarily ordered to do so. What’s the big difference between 275 and 300 anyway? He’s already a big guy. I still would hit it, no question, I’m just saying!
Oh and I found a couple of other nice quotes that Chris gave recently. In GQ in May, he admitted his wife Anna Faris was out of his league but said that he gets women because he’s just comfortable in his skin without being a dick, basically. He said “I married way out of my pay grade. I have no idea how that happened. She’s so goddamn funny and so good. She is a legit comedy powerhouse. But I’m not going to question it too much. I don’t know what it is, man. I guess chicks dig love handles or something.” As for getting women, his advice is “Just be comfortable with who you are. The truth is that any amount of trickery or wearing cool shirts with rad designs or using pick-up lines, or any of this bullshit like trying to neg girls, isn’t going to matter. It won’t pay off when she realizes that you’re full of shit. Girls like that quiet confidence… you want to be with a girl who likes you for you. Just be yourself.” I’m going to pay attention to this guy from now on. I also want to see how long it takes him to lose the weight!
